Meet the Teacher

1(91of110).jpg

Tierra Hughes (Ms. Tee) is the founder of I’m Craftee. She is a respected children’s art educator having taught many classes on art for a wide variety of ages. As an artist, she knows that kids do not get enough time for art in school. She wants to be able to impact children outside of school as well. Art is therapy for children. Art is a way children can express themselves. When Tierra was younger she found the love for art and the age of 8. She drew cartoon characters very well. She loved to design clothing. She would help her older sister with her art project. As she entered middle school, there weren't really many classes for art offered. She wasn't able to hone her talent. She then tested into a science and technology high school program, where she studied engineering. In hindsight, it also hindered her creativity as an artist. When she attended college at Bowie State University, she was determined to pursue her artistic passion and entered into the Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts program. There she felt like she was in her element. She won several art awards for her artwork. She became very well known throughout the fine and performing art department. There she received her Bachelor's degree. She now teaches for Prince George's County Public Schools. Art has had a big impact on her life, and she wants to create that opportunity for future artists. She loves to see kids bring out their creativity, especially when they say “I CAN’T”. She turns “I CAN’T” into “I CAN”.
